A different model

Most apps get built once, then left to rot. App Care is the other way.

The usual path is a build project, then a thin support agreement that nobody really owns. Updates slip, store deadlines creep up, and one day a customer tells you the app is broken. App Care flips that: a flat monthly service that keeps your app compliant, secure and in the stores, run by the same senior team, so you never have to think about it. It is common overseas and rare here. That is the gap we fill.

The usual way
  • Build project, then hand off
  • A support contract nobody owns
  • You chase updates and deadlines
  • Surprise costs when something breaks
App Care
  • One senior team runs it, ongoing
  • A flat monthly fee, no surprises
  • Compliance and deadlines handled for you
  • Someone to call when you need them

Is this just a support contract?

No. A support contract is reactive and owned by no one, so the work that keeps an app alive quietly stops. App Care is a managed service: the same senior team keeps your app compliant, secure and in the stores for a flat monthly fee, and stays ahead of store and OS deadlines for you.

Who runs your app

One senior team. The people who assess it are the people who run it.

Donnish is a small, senior team based in Brisbane with a blended delivery team in Aussie hours, not a marketplace and not a single contractor. Founder Quinn van Heerden has over 20 years leading software delivery and is in the detail on every engagement.

Experienced

Proven, not aspirational

We do not just build apps, we keep them alive. The people behind Donnish have run drtalk in production for over six years and support the STARTTS platform for NSW Health, and have delivered apps for institutions including NGM Group and MUFG across banking and financial services. That is over 20 years of delivery behind the team, across every stack including the Xamarin apps most teams will not touch.

NGM Group (formerly NPBS)
Mobile banking, delivered by the people behind Donnish. A 4.7-star App Store rating across more than 325,000 customers.
MUFG (formerly Link Group)
Work across three of their apps: Miraqle, Investor Centre and Member Centre. Two on Xamarin, plus a UX heuristic review and refresh.
WikiCamps
A Xamarin to Flutter migration of one of Australia's best-known camping apps.
Victoria DEECA
Two Xamarin government field apps, More to Go and Tarnook GO, for forest fire and hazard management.

STARTTS

CAMLAP, the Flutter platform we built and now run for STARTTS, part of NSW Health. It delivers trauma-informed clinical assessments in a survivor's first language across 179 nationalities, with a no-code builder so clinicians create their own questionnaires. We keep it compliant, supported and improving on a managed retainer (Silver plus) as the program expands from NSW toward a national rollout.

drtalk

drtalk, the dental collaboration platform we have built and run for over six years, serving thousands of US practitioners across web, tablet and mobile. It is a modular .NET platform on Azure with clinical channels, referrals and Stripe-powered payments and payouts; we migrated its app from Xamarin to React Native, work that won a 2024 Australian Good Design Award. We run, secure and evolve the whole platform end to end, a Platinum plus engagement.

Deep on the stacks nobody else will touch: the team behind Donnish has shipped Xamarin apps for WikiCamps (migrated to Flutter), Victoria DEECA (two government apps), MUFG (Miraqle and Member Centre) and an Australian crypto exchange.

Built around what you need

The things you actually asked for.

Running an app you depend on should be quiet and predictable. Here is how the service is shaped around that.

A predictable cost you can manage
One flat monthly fee, set per app at the free check. No hourly rate, no surprise invoices.
Someone to call
You deal with the same senior people every time, not a call centre or a ticket lottery.
Low-touch by design
We handle it quietly. You get a short monthly summary, not a backlog to manage.
A status you can forward
A plain-language summary you can forward to a sponsor or board, no jargon.
Priority when it counts
Day to day is best-effort on a schedule. When something is critical, you jump the queue.

How we run it

The Donnish App Lifecycle

Seven stages, three phases. The same method on every app.

  1. Phase A · Assess
    • 1App Health Check (free)Five business days. Store and SDK status, third-party library risk, performance, crash health, and existing analytics. Output: a one-page risk report and a recommended plan.
    • 2Baseline and planCurrent state, risk register, roll-forward plan, recommended tier, and the capped onboarding quote.
  2. Phase B · Onboard
    • 3Setup and configurationAccess to App Store Connect and Google Play (you keep ownership), Firebase, repositories, signing keys and certificates, user roles, a service desk channel, CI/CD for repeatable releases, and the monitoring and analytics baseline.
    • 4Priority updates (stabilise)Bring the app to compliance and clear critical security and performance issues, under the agreed onboarding scope.
  3. Phase C · Run (the ongoing loop)
    • 5Status monitoringCrashes, performance, store status and security alerts. We act before you notice.
    • 6Maintenance and minor updatesThe change pool, dependency upkeep, scheduled releases, and quality-assured regression on the release path.
    • 7Periodic health reviewSecurity and performance audit, analytics review, and a roadmap session. Findings feed back into the plan, and the loop continues. When something goes wrong, a defined incident and rollback path contains it.

App hygiene, and everything beyond the binary
the core, in every tier

App hygiene

Keeping the binary compliant, secure and broadly up to date: store, OS and SDK compliance roll-forward on iOS and Android; dependency and security patching; third-party library risk review; crash and performance monitoring with alerts; release management to the App Store and Google Play; minor app changes; and a monitoring and analytics baseline.

Yes, in every tier. Bounded and forecastable, which is why it can be a fixed monthly price.

the expand

Beyond the binary

The wider platform we can run, proven on drtalk: backend and API maintenance on Azure, cloud and infrastructure management, integrations across payments, identity, messaging and video, feature development beyond minor changes, technology migrations, design modernisation and analytics deep-dives.

Scoped once we have context. Light in Gold, full in Platinum, or as fixed-price add-on projects. Priced after the App Health Check, not guessed up front.

Where the line sits, and why

The binary, its direct dependencies and its store presence are hygiene: predictable, repeatable, and the same shape on every app, so they sit in every tier at a fixed price. The backend, cloud, integrations and features are the expand layer; their effort depends entirely on the app, so we price them once the App Health Check has given us context.

This protects the no-surprises promise on the core, and gives us an honest, evidenced reason to do more once we have earned the context.

Severity and service levels

The SLA rows above mean specific things, and Silver is deliberately best-effort on resolution so nobody expects a guaranteed P1 fix from an email. These are starting definitions, pending the full SLA schedule.

Response
We acknowledge the ticket and begin triage.
Service restoration
The app is back to a usable state, possibly via a temporary workaround.
Resolution
The root cause is permanently fixed. This can take longer than restoration when it depends on a store review or a third party.
Best effort
We prioritise it within our scheduled capacity, with no committed time.
Business hours
8am to 6pm AEST on Australian working days. We do not offer 24/7 cover; every response and restoration target is measured in business hours.
P1, Critical
App down, crashing on launch, removed or rejected from a store, a security breach, or a core function broken for most users. No workaround.
P2, High
A major feature broken or badly degraded for many users; a workaround may exist; or a compliance deadline is imminent.
P3, Medium
A minor feature broken, or a non-urgent bug affecting some users.
P4, Low
Cosmetic issues, small requests, questions, enhancements.

Said plainly: on Silver, resolution is best effort

A Silver client who emails a P1 gets a same or next business day response and best-effort restoration, but no committed restoration or resolution time. Clients who need a committed P1 restoration belong on Gold (8 business hours) or Platinum (4 business hours, with incident management and rollback).

These are starting definitions for the MSA, not the final schedule. The full matrix of P2 to P4 targets, exclusions and dependency carve-outs is being built out.

What to expect over the first year

Effort is heaviest up front, then settles into maintenance. The numbers below are indicative and vary per app, but they help you see where the work goes. All support is delivered 8am to 6pm AEST on Australian working days, not 24/7.

PeriodSilverGoldWhat is happening
Months 1 to 3~10 to 15 hrs/mo~20 to 35 hrs/moSetup, stabilisation, first updates or feature. The heavy part, smoothed across the year.
Months 4 to 6~6 hrs/mo~10 to 12 hrs/moSettling in: compliance, minor updates, monitoring.
Months 7 to 9~4 hrs/mo~6 to 8 hrs/moSteady maintenance.
Months 10 to 12~4 hrs/mo~6 hrs/moMaintenance, with a spike around the annual iOS and Android deadlines.

The included monthly change pool (Silver up to 8, Gold up to 12) covers the steady months. The heavier first quarter is the onboarding and stabilisation work, quoted and smoothed so you still pay a flat monthly amount. Platinum is sized at the assessment.

Pricing, commercial terms and what's included

What the flat fee includes, and what we rely on

The flat monthly covers the standard setup, ongoing app hygiene for the tier, the change pool, monitoring, analytics, releases and support. The standard setup is our onboarding plus an initial, time-boxed pass at the app: if the assessment raises urgent issues, we do as many as the time-box allows, or build a small feature you want.

For a flat fee to work, a few things are assumed and stated up front, in the proposal and the MSA:

  • You are the product owner (or provide that role): you set priorities and own the decisions.
  • You provide QA, user-acceptance and business testing. We do the building and the developer and build testing; you confirm it works for your business.
  • We work a transparent product and service backlog in Jira, tracking estimates and actuals, so you see exactly where time goes.
  • You provide timely access to stores, repositories, accounts and the people who know the app.
  • Cloud, third-party and store fees are yours, billed at cost.

These assumptions are what keep the price flat and the relationship clear.

Commercial terms, the model that already works

These mirror the terms Donnish already runs with STARTTS, part of NSW Health, so they are proven, not theoretical.

  • Paid monthly in advance. Predictable for you, cash-flow-positive for us.
  • 12-month term, auto-renewing for a further 12 months unless cancelled before renewal.
  • Capped monthly change pool per tier, so neither side carries open-ended risk.
  • Unused hours roll forward for three months then expire, with the banked balance capped at one month's pool.

Onboarding: assess, quote, then smooth it

Taking on an app we did not build is real work, so we quote it up front and let you smooth it. The free App Health Check scopes it precisely: the hours, and what is needed. We then quote a fixed, capped onboarding and stabilisation figure, and you choose to pay it once or smoothed across the first six to twelve months as a temporary uplift that then steps down to the standard monthly fee.

Apps we already built need little or no onboarding, so existing and warm clients stay an easy yes. Because we do not know an app's condition up front, the assessment sizes the onboarding for that specific app and sets the all-in price before you sign. The unknown is priced in at the start, never billed as a surprise a month later.

Out-of-package work, priced for no surprises

  • The change pool covers minor work each month. We flag before you approach the cap, so you are never surprised by an overage.
  • Planned change work beyond the pool is agreed up front.
  • Larger pieces (features, migrations, design modernisation) are fixed-price-quoted projects, never variable monthly creep.
  • Pass-through costs (cloud hosting, third-party API subscriptions, store developer fees) are yours and billed at cost.

What keeps the price flat

  • You are the product owner, or provide that role.
  • You provide QA, user-acceptance and business testing.
  • We work a transparent product and service backlog in Jira.
  • You provide timely access to stores, repositories, accounts and people.
  • Cloud, third-party and store fees are yours, billed at cost.
Add-ons, fixed-price projects

Beyond the retainer, larger pieces are scoped and fixed-price-quoted. Indicative starting figures, sized per app at scope.

  • App technology migration (Xamarin to .NET MAUI or React Native)from $15,000
  • Feature sprint (2 weeks)$12,500
  • Design modernisation (UI uplift)from $9,000
  • MDM implementation and rolloutfrom $8,000
  • Analytics deep-dive (user-flow and event mapping)from $5,000
  • UI/UX heuristic review and conceptsfrom $3,500

Indicative only, to be confirmed at scope. Migrations vary widely with app size and stack, so treat $15,000 as a floor for a small app, not a typical figure.

Our tooling, and your data

This value point only works because we run our own AI-assisted tooling across the whole service: automated dependency and security scanning, monitoring, analytics, release pipelines, and AI through the delivery workflow. Using our standard tooling throughout is mandatory, not optional. It is how we keep the service efficient and the price fair, and how a small team runs many apps well.

Your data stays yours. Donnish will protect it as far as is within our control. The precise wording sits in the MSA.
